The autumn countryside of Cambridgeshire

PHOTO GALLERY

This is a selection of images from the hundreds I have taken over the years. My father started my interest in photography. In the days of black and white, he earned a living as a part-time wedding photographer. I would help with the developing and printing of the contact sheets and proofs. He always tried to get these done quickly so he could take them back to the wedding reception. Everyone would feel obliged to purchase several photographs, generating more sales than by just sending the proofs to the Bride and Groom after their honeymoon.

Once he was asked to photograph a nudist wedding. On that occasion I was not allowed to help in the darkroom (the temporally commandeered bathroom). I did experiment quite a lot with different papers and exposure techniques. On the trivia page is a self-portrait contact print taken with a home-made pinhole camera and a piece of 120 film.

The images below are all favourites of mine either because of the imagery or as a captured memory of a wonderful holiday destination. There are separate pages with a small selection of abstract subjects and holiday snaps.

A small granite Buddha with mouse and tortise.
This delightful study is in the Chinese Garden, Sydney, Australia. (49k)

The Millennium Dome at night.
I visited the Dome twice and and enjoyed the 'experience'. The millennium show, before they cut the best part, was stunning. (51k)

Hanging Rock, Australia, a very mystic place. Although the car park was full the rock seemed quite deserted. (53k)

Fountains Abbey, Yorkshire.
The gardens and Abbey ruins are a pleasent location for a Sunday afternoon stroll. (52k)

A quiet corner of Sibenik in the former Yugoslavia. Taken on my first 'package holiday' in the early 1970s. Taken with a Zenith E camera. (40k)

Peterborough Cathedral from the air.
Taking good quality aerial photographs from a light plane is not easy. This one took three passes to get the right cloud cover and position. (61k)

The roofs of Robin Hoods Bay, Yorkshire.
A very popular spot on the East coast. Get there early to enjoy the sun rise.(71k)

Well Dressing, Youlgreave, Derbyshire.
We happened upon the annual festival by chance. The detail designs are mainly made from flower petals. (94k)
