MOTHER GOOSE

This is a traditional style pantomime very loosely based on the story of Mother Goose. Our Drama Group has limited resources and a very small stage. Therefore the script was written with all these factors in mind and should suit most amateur theatrical groups. We staged six shows over two weeks in early 1989. Although the process of writing and producing the pantomime was a long and exhausting one the results were well worth the effort.

You are welcome to make use of the script for a pantomime of your own. The production is very easy to stage. The sets are quite simple, the music is based on popular songs and there are plenty of opportunities to write in those local references and jokes. My only request is you acknowledge my authorship on any posters of programmes.

THE STORY

Far away in the land of Nursery Rhymes by a wood filled with Bluebells stands Blackbird Cottage the home of Mother Goose, her daughter Daisy May and two sons, Silly Billy and Little Tom.

But all is not well, with no money to pay her taxes Mother Goose is about to be evicted from her home by the local tax collector Sir Jasper, but not before he has kidnapped Daisy May and arranged a wedding for the next day.

With Sir Jasper taxing everything no one can afford to live in Nursery Rhyme Land, Jack and Jill, Bo Peep and even Jack Horner are packing their bags and getting ready to leave.

Is this the end of Nursery Rhyme Land? What will the little boys and girls have to read about? Who will save the day, who can stop the evil Sir Jasper and his two henchmen Angry Angus and Mad Mary.

Enter brave Robin from Never Never Land. can he save the day? Perhaps the good Fairy Snow will come to their aid, and what about that very special goose, Ermintrude.

Despite the hindrance of Silly Billy, the group makes its way to Helton Hall the home of the evil Sir Jasper. There they rescue Daisy May and discover the truth about the plans of bad fairy Belladonna to rule Nursery Rhyme land.

Fairy Snow finally wins the day and the pantomime ends with a surprise double wedding and everyone living happily ever after.
