This is a list of over 80 beer styles. The descriptions are drawn from various sources. Amateur brewing societies often have strict rules and guidelines for beer styles, dictating the ingredients, starting gravity, alcohol level and colour. In practice there can be quite a variation of commercial examples within a particular style, even with local beers. The abv range and descriptions are a guide to what you may expect from a style of beer.
